Our topic is leadership and legacy, Joseph Stalin. We started by looking up historical leaders throughout different time periods, my friend Christopher Park had suggested the name Joseph Stalin. He gave us a little description about him, yet I was still confused on who this man was. We did research over an extended period of time and everytime I searched up his name I learned something new. We had never heard of him in any of our history classes so this made it more interesting to learn about someone I had never heard before but had a huge impact on our history, which also drove my curiosity to research on this important figure.
We started conducting our research by searching articles and websites based on Joseph Stalin, at first we weren't sure if they were reliable or not. We weren't even sure if what we read was true, but after a lot of time searching for Joseph Stalin on the web we found more primary sources, recordings, paintings, articles, and quotes. We found more about him and in a lot of detail. We found information from the Five Year Pact to what he did in high school and how he ended up dying. We went to a bookstore and found a recently published series of huge books devoted just Joseph Stalin.
After we chose our topic, we had to choose a category to present our project on. We were willing to choose a category that would allow us to explain the topic for a decent amount of time in organized sections. This allowed us to narrow it down to a documentary or a performance. At the end, we decided to do a documentary because most of us were familiar with the procedures of making a decent documentary video and none of us were good actors. We decided to use a program called Blender because one of our members is really familiar about making a documentary. However, during the beginning of February we decided to change our category to a website. We realized that we wouldn't have enough time to do our documentary well and get an interview which is an important part of the documentary. Another reason why we chose a website is because it can explain the important details in a more efficient and organized way. We can also go into detail without running out of time, talking too fast or rushing information. Overall we thought it would be better to switch over to a website.
Joseph Stalin was a harsh dictator who drastically changed Russia while ruling with an iron fist. Joseph Stalin impacted WWII on the Eastern Front. Joseph Stalin also made a Five Year Pact to industrialize Russia to a central world power by giving out better technology to farmers and creating more factories through forced labor in order to industrialize Soviet Russia. This relates to this year’s History Day topic because it describes the leadership Joseph Stalin had over Soviet Russia and also how the legacy of Joseph Stalin is important. Joseph Stalin impacted a lot of events, one being the Russian Revolution, industrializing Russia, and World War II. He had fought off Nazi soldiers with a counter offensive close to Moscow, ending Operation Barbarossa.
