Korean War
Even though the Soviet Union was one of the ally forces during WWII, they became our enemy in the Korean War. The Korean War was a conflict between two main countries, South and North Korea. The United States fought for the South, however the North was supported by China and the Soviet Union.
Korea was ruled by Japan from 1910 until 1945 when they surrendered towards the United States. This meant that the U.S. subsequently was in control over South Korea. On the other hand Russia declared war on Japan in August of 1945 and started to invade the northern part of Korea. Stalin had decided to side with North Korea because he wanted to see Communism expand as long as he did not get involved in a ‘hot war’ with America. In 1949, Kim II Sung visited Stalin. He persuaded Stalin that he could conquer South Korea. Stalin did not think that America would get involved, so he gave his agreement. By this time America had control over Japan, so America and Russia made an agreement which said that Russia would occupy a part of Korea north of 38 Parallel and the U.S. would occupy the other part of Korea south of the line. In 1948 two different governments across from each other has been set up.
On June 25, 1950, the Korean War began with when some of the North Korean soldiers poured across the 38 Parallel Line. This order was given by Joseph Stalin. In the battles, Stalin supplies North Korea with weapons, supplies, vehicles, and soldiers. The bloody conflict continued on for the next 3 years. On July 27, 1953, both sides agreed to sign a negotiation that drew a border across the 38 Parallel Line, completely splitting Korea into North and South. It also ordered an immediate ceasefire for all the soldiers in the battle field. This border still remains today on the 38 Parallel.
